Link Building

The basic definition of link building is the process in which you create hyperlinks to your site from other sites.

You can either build a link from other websites to either your front page or one of the internal pages of your website.

The more links you build between your site and others, the more traffic your receive and the higher your search engine rankings will be.

Link building has gained new attention recently due to its importance in terms of raising search engine rankings.

While you will periodically see “new” information about link building, it is something that you should be working on daily in order to keep your search engine rankings high.

There are a lot of different ways to get links back to your site. Here are a few methods:

  • You can trade or exchange links- essentially, you ask another site owner to put a link to your page on his or her page, and then you do the same for that site.
  • One method that has rapidly increased in popularity is building links by submitting articles to other sites or article directories that contain links back to your site. A related method is to be a “guest blogger” on another site, giving them content for their page in return for a link back to your page.
  • One of the simplest strategies is creating a “link to this page” button that allows people who visit your site to link to it from their own page.
  • You can submit images to image sharing sites like Flickr or deposit photos.
  • You can submit software and toolbars to software directories.
  • You can create bookmarks on bookmarking sites.
  • You can create profile links.
  • You can use RSS feeds to syndicate content.
  • You can comment on other people’s articles.

Now that you know what link building is and have a few ideas of ways you can go about getting those all-important backlinks, you may wonder what link building will do for you.

The short answer is that link building brings in traffic, creates customers, and brings you money.

Link building allows both visitors to other sites and search engines to find your site.

Have you ever checked out other sites and clicked on links on that site that caught your eye?

That’s exactly what link building does for you. Perhaps the most important feature of link building is the fact that your search engine rankings will rise.

Search engines determine your ranking in part by looking at how many sites link to your page, and the more often a search engine “crawler” algorithm finds your page, the higher your rankings will be.

Link building is an important part of a comprehensive search engine optimization plan, but to get the most out of your SEO efforts, there are a few tricks to remember.

First, try to gain links to pages that are relevant to yours- for example, if you sell clothing, links from other pages about fashion will be more valuable than those from sites that sell kitchenware.

Second, don’t go overboard by creating hundreds or thousands of links on your very first day- search engines can detect this, and it can lead to your site being banned completely from search results.

Finally, remember that to get the most from your link building efforts, you should work on them at least weekly, if not daily, to get a few links at a time each day.

Link building can bring your site the traffic you have been looking for.
